Most of the Indians in the UK immigrated from the state of Punjab in the 1960’s. Punjab is the north of India and thus has Muslims. Additionally, there may have been Pakistanis in the movie as Pakistan use to be part of India

Ive just watched the movie bend it like beckham yesterday in the tv… but i get confused by their languages used..well i do understand english…my teacher in my school tells me that the english we are using in singapore( im a singaporean) is a british english…well i watched this show ” mind your language” and its a british show..and i do understand their english especially their dialects so share common speaking here…but the movie bend it like beckham i got confused by their language used..at first i thought they were speaking australian kind of english then i found out they speak british english..i find that their speaking and same dialects and people in australian speaks. or is it different? well cud u explain the complex here? i just hate being confused thats y im curious…
The actors in Bend it like Beckham were mostly British, so they were all speaking with English accents. Australian and English accents can sometimes sound very similar. Australia used to be a British colony for a long time– it was only until the early 1900s that Australia became an independent commonwealth. Because the influence of the British has been so pervasive in Australia for so long, the Australians still tend to even speak like them. America, on the other hand, declared independence 200-something years ago, in 1776. That’s why American accents don’t sound as English as Australian accents do.
The point is, even though the actors from Bend it like Beckham may have sounded Australian, they were actually British and spoke with authentic English accents.
I have to compare a film to Bend it like Beckham, so it has to be kind of similar. it doesnt have to be exactly about soccer, but a woman being pushed into classic gender roles.

Or it could also be the decision that Jess’s parents had to make to let her go to America to play soccer.
2. Jess’s decision to go to Germany ( I think that’s where they went >.< ) for the soccer game behind her parents back.
How was the movie?
It’s a great movie. Good on lots of levels: friendship, culturally educational, sports info, good-looking actors; laughs and sentiment. Good moral ending.
It is a good film for every age and both genders. Plus it is not that long, not much more than an hour, really.
